In our theoretical analysis we find that the different predictions of previous imitation models are mainly explained by different informational assumptions, and to a lesser extent by different behavioral rules. In a laboratory experiment we test the different theories by systematically varying information conditions. We find significant effects of seemingly innocent changes in information. Moreover, the generalized imitation model predicts the differences between treatments well. The data provide support for imitation on the individual level, both in terms of choice and in terms of perception. Furthermore, individuals’ propensity to imitate more successful actions is increasing in payoff differences.GermanyGermanyStudentsApesteguia, Jose; Huck, Jose; Oechssler, Jörg, "Imitation - Theory and Experimental Evidence", Journal of Economic Theory 136 (2007), 217-235.10.1016/j.jet.2006.07.006Apesteguia, Jose; Huck, Jose; Oechssler, Jörg, "Imitation - Theory and Experimental Evidence", Journal of Economic Theory 136 (2007), 217-235.imit-master.tab1296022text/tab-separated-valuesUNF:5:5pL5x5wCWhIWWBXoTb46LA==treatmentUNF:5:HVo3thkK/3p8uG/2KXx4vQ==UNF:5:ZMCNI/Lpy6/tPEyfhrGMaA==UNF:5:GeW0AcQxqxguKXsZJpQJNA==UNF:5:N9MyzYPQZ9PWKsSGA7smYw==UNF:5:TiePPlnHvLF8ziH5v988qQ==UNF:5:cTJ5e2xw8uGHJf9M86NrWA==UNF:5:i0S/MmwSonCFPQch7dsWWw==avPayGameUNF:5:6VOVLBDB6mlgDFSEg76noA==UNF:5:6KrirvReqrrYLJK1Rg3MnA==UNF:5:sK2LjOimaJ30EZnlgES5KA==other1choiceUNF:5:NKxVZ1Eyu703xSuRgYDwnA==other2choiceUNF:5:NARcI4NZUA4fVWPNu7vMwQ==other1profitUNF:5:eTunxEjFmczj3Cu2H2nocQ==other2profitUNF:5:z4wBAmmqDB/8oeo2ztlF2Q==UNF:5:LUNGvlBabsTOPWbI0HvtqQ==UNF:5:jb41JMoWillyP81//J07rA==role1choiceUNF:5:zAcU8zZar1e6sQnLr1EXkg==role2choiceUNF:5:KMbNVXeRgzuH7kypx0oUvQ==role1profitUNF:5:Kb68eqpc30boYLQXcP9wrQ==role2profitUNF:5:fwU078RUrbWvYLAijwgtwA==UNF:5:kKKE0+YUVMZNg5scUJK+EA==period > 30 and treat ~= "aspiration" (FILTER)0Nicht ausgewählt81001Ausgewählt4860UNF:5:gH6eWluyLiRDG2IESQrl9g==imit-simul.frequencies.xlsxapplication/octet-streamimit-vergleich simulation data.xlsxapplication/octet-streamLZA.tar.gzThis file is for internal use only.application/x-gzip
